pwr brake booster question

guys,
i am looking for a pwr brake boster assy. for my 72 chevy 1/2 ton 2wd. i called a local yard & asked for a '99 or newer brake assy. from a 1/2 or 3/4 ton p/u. they first asked me if i wanted hydralic or vacum? my first question to you guys is what is the difference & why????

i guess my second question is does anyone have any input as to why this assy. would/would not work on my truck???
and if anyone has done a similar setup on there truck & what kind of truck??

any input from you guys would be much appreciated.

thanks!!

I am guessing the hydrolic set up is from a diesel as they have no vacuum, and or heavy duty applications. I imagine you could "make" it work, with enough time, cussing, and a big hammer but why? The 3/4 stuff works good on these and you can get the compact unit to clean up the firwall as well.

Re: pwr brake booster question

The hydralic unit uses power from the power steering pump and is usually called a hydro boost system. They can be handy if you want power brakes and a wild cam that doesn't create enough vacuum.
