Help on Power Booster problem

I upgraded from a manual master cylinder and drum front end to this new power booster (3/4 ton for my truck) and I think this is the one final problem I am having with my disc conversion.

This isn't normal for a booster rod, to sit right up against the firewall like this, is it? I'm worried maybe it needs spacers or something. My brakes feel fine (in fact GREAT compared to what they used to be!) but just wondering if leaving this booster rod like this could be causing drag by slight pressure on the brakes.

If this isn't normal, how to you adjust the end point on the booster? I know the pedal has an adjuster, but don't know of anything else. Any pics of what it should look like what also be helpful.

I don't have mine here to look at, but can't you just adjust the length of that rod under the rubber boot??

Regret I can't help. But I would like to put front discs on my 1/2 ton 1970 C10. Can you give any more information about what you did that might help me? Did you buy a kit? From who? How did the installation go? Any advice?

Mark, I didn't buy a kit. I bought a crossmember from a junkyard, and used the spindles, rotors, and calipers from it. I bought new brake line for the swap, since the old brake lines couldn't be reused. I also had a used 72 3/4 master cylinder and power booster, and used them both only as cores to get a new MC and booster from Autozone.

I'd put a 1/8 or 1/4" spacers between the firewall and the bracket.You need to allow the master cylinder to have a full stroke when applying the brakes and to not drag when your not using them.

It looks like the linkage that is hitting the firewall is reversed. If you turn the linkage around it will clear the firewall.

Here is a pic of the linkage by itself and you can see that the pin hole is drilled to one side so reversing the linkage will give you the clearance.

YEAH, what he said!! In looking at your bracket the curved side will face the firewall and have the needed clearance. Good luck and good call Jim.

interesting, i bought my booster from a board member and it was set up with the curve going away from the firewall. i actually looked at another stock trucks and the set up was the same way with the curve awey from the firewall. mine is just so slightly touching the firewall with hardly no pressure. if somebody could post a picture with the booster mounted for i can see the proper clearence it would be appreciated.

You guys ROCK! Once again, board members to the rescue!! I took a little while to get them all switched around, but it solved it. THANK YOU!

Roadking, did you by chance buy the booster from me? I know I sold one on here, so someone out there is sure to have this same problem. Because that assembly came off right off a truck, I set mine to mimick it. In either case, flipping it around does solve the problem.

...and after correctly installing the PB brackets to the firewall and booster, don't be initially alarmed (as I was) that it causes the PB assy to "tilt/lean" forward. I guess I wasn't that observant when I initially took mine off and did a "double-take" once I reinstalled it some months later...after I referred back to the pics I had taken of the assy prior to removal I realized what was going on....Oh well...live & learn (again!).

i just checked my pm and funny have it i did buy it from you. it appears 70gmcer has his linkage on with the flat part on the firewall side also? 70gmcer is that a factory set up?

I took this whole brake booster assembly off a 71 and put it back on the way it came off. All I did was paint the brackets. I didn't take anything apart. Works perfect.

Hey guys dont mean to hack this thread but i just bought a 67 gmc 3/4 ton.I have a power booster and disc brake set up off of a 85' 3/4 ton truck.can i swap all of this includeing the proportioning valve on to my truck?What about the power steering box from the 85'.Sorry for hacking in i just read the thread i kinda thought i could get my answer from reading it and i still dont know.Thanks for any help.

i dont want to beat this like a drum but I've looked at three stock trucks and all three have had the curved part of the bracket toward the engine? i dont feel any drag on my brakes i just want to install it correctly.
