Todays Project: Fatmat and Carpet install

Ok, so I ordered two rolls of Fatmat sound insulation. VERY easy to work with and sticks great. I put down two layers to ensure a nice quiet ride(in a convertible ). Fatmat is a great price and I still have tons left to do the doors, rear quarters, and bed. Por 15'd the floors last year just in case too, but they are rust free originals. You'll notice that the sides are not painted, thats because I will be installing Fatmat, then speaker enclosures.

The first pic is the first layer minus the center hump, which i did later with two layers also. Also got the firewall. I intalled some new firewall "stock" insulation also since the original was falling to pieces, Then came the new carpet kit. Very nice fit.

Tomorrow I will post pics with seats, new(reconditioned) console and trim installed.

That looks great. Wait till you get the doors done. You are going to be amazed at how solid they sound when you close them....

Looks good, seems to conform to the floor very well. Did you also use a jute padding under the carpet?

There was some padding attached to the carpet so yes. I used two layers of the Fatmat. It is very easy to work with cuts super easy with the blade they sent. The floor feels very solid. So "fun" finding the bolt holes in floor.

You can buy Fatmat on Ebay or at their website named the same.
I'm doing the doors today so I'll post up some pics.

FatMat and Carpet Continued"

Ok here are some more pics from this morning. Got console in...looks great. Also got the driver seat set to bolt in. I media blasted(thanks Harbor Freight) the brackets and gave them some fresh coats of semi-gloss. I think they also look good. I'm glad I took the time to do them.
Next I installed Fatmat in both doors. I went to town on them inside i did both the side facing out and the side facing in to cab. I also did where the panel covers just because i got plenty of Fatmat. The stuff is great and sticks super.

I'm really happy with the fatmat. I live in reality and know that this truck will not be as quiet as a rolls but I just from knocking on doors, I can tell it is tons better. I have not driven yet, so more to come

Ok, went for a spin around the block a few times and WOW! Absolute dream to drive down the road. Road noise is near nothing and I have not even laid FAtmat on the rear floor yet . The engine is quiet also. So, what is the review? Fatmat is EXCELLENT. I laid two layers. I can't believe its the same blazer. Doors shut solid and are quiet. No more rickety creaks down the road.

Great job, looks good and I bet it does make alot of difference.

But, But, But, aren't you defeating the reason to drive a 36 yr old Truck? The squeaks and rattles. LOL

Looks great. I also have extra Fat mat from my 71 truck that I did. I hope to do my new 71 blazer the same way. Do you have any pic's of the inner fire wall?

crzngmychvy - Yes, actually I ordered the 100sq ft bulk roll. It comes in two rolls. Easily enough to double layer cab/front, firewall and doors. I have plenty left(a little more than half of the second roll) to do the rear floor.

Jakeslim - I was checking out the fatmat dealer on ebay and they have a lot of negative and neutral feedback. Mostly from slow shipping. How did it go for you? Did you but it from the webpage or ebay?

crzngmychvy - good question. I forgot to post on that. I ordered directly from the website on a Saturday. I called them the following Tuesday to find out the status. The girl was helpful and quick in finding my order. She mentioned that my order would ship out the following Monday. It did and received it the following Monday after that, so two full weeks. She told me when it would ship and it did. Is two weeks slow? Compared to Summit or a bigger vendor yes, but I get the feeling Fatmat is still growing.

Two scoops of icecream is better than one j/k, I just felt that
since I had plenty, might as well layer it. The second layer stuck like glue to the first...really good seal. I paid for the bulk roll and it was worth it. I was surprised to see how thin it was , but i guess the name creates a sense of "fat" . Again, I'd buy more and am very pleased with results. I would plan on laying two layers, after all our trucks are not exactly quiet.
