Re: Vin # ?

Uncle,

I decoded this at americanclassic.com for you.

VIN CS10C1A15616
Model Year 196C
Chassis 2 Wheel Drive
Body Style (unknown code)
GVWR Range 3600-5600

Cab-To-Axle Dimension

Engine 6-Cylinder
Assembly Plant Flint, MI
Sequential Number A15616

I remember someone telling me that that their 70 GMC started with CS1, so it may very well be a GMC.

Curt

Re: Vin # ?

It's a 6 lug truck and does not look like it's been changed, so I think it may be a 70. When I bought it the seller put 69, but I didn't see a 9 in the vin anywhere. I'm sure it's a GMC, I just needed to know the year. Thanks Tim.

Re: Vin # ?

Sorry I had to edit my bad typing. It is a 69 by your serial...GMC used letters to ID the years.

Nope...I save it long ago. Just didn't remember who originally posted it. I am a keeper of anything that I might think I'll need in the future.

Thank you sir!!!!

Re: Vin # ?

We'll heres a better quality version than that old one I posted.

The trouble with GMC vins is there was more than one way they did the 67-69 ones..so it would be hard to make a decoder....some have dimension codes of the cab to axle in the vins which break down to a length.... unto which they decode differently between GMC truck and Chevy trucks, as some Chev vins do it like GMC vins in the 67-69 era. Then there are some Canadian built GMC vins that have a 9 after the first character to denote truck built in Canada. Then there are extra GVW codes in some vins also....those took me a bit to figure out what they were all about. Now look at the number of the starting sequence of the 70-71 GMC vins ...while most figure sequence numbers all started at 10001 for example...the all didnt.
Simplier for me to just to decode them as need be. I still get one once in a while I figure was just done wrong....no rhyme or reason why there done that way.
