1 ton rear axle Vs Duelly rear axle??
Is a duelly rear axle a one ton with adapters added for the second wheels?
A friend is buying a duelly truck with a bad rear axle and he can get a 1 ton rear end for free. Not really knowing the difference I told him I thought they were interchangable by switching the adapters. The more I thought about it made me think I'm wrong. Can anyone tell me if a single wheel 1 ton rear end can be made into a double wheel 1 ton rear end?

Re: 1 ton rear axle Vs Duelly rear axle??
u got 2 types of dually rear ends u got a cab and chassis which is alto narrower than a true dually the cab and chassis rear end will fit the dually wheel in the wheel well of a reg bed but u have to widen the wheel tubs while the true dually sticks out of the bed sides

Re: 1 ton rear axle Vs Duelly rear axle??
I should clarify my question. I am wondering how the second set of tires are attached to the axle assembly. Is there a hub or spacer between the first set and the second set? Or do they attach some other way?
If it's a spacer I believe the 1 ton single wheel rear end can be used and just add the spacer(?) and second set of tires for the double wheel rear end.
