I have never heard of that engine size in a 79. I think the only Big Block you could get is a 454. I could be wrong and if so I am sure I will be corrected by the experts here. I think it sounds worth it regardless

Re: whats it worth

Does the tag state "1979" and "402" ? Pretty sure 1972 was the last year for a 402 in a truck. The 400 small block was availiable until 1980.

Re: whats it worth

Pretty sure if look closely it says 400 as that is a pretty common engine in the late 70's. At least my '79 Suburban and my buddies '78(?) 3/4ton had them.
Was it a big block?

Re: whats it worth

CAN'T be a 402 from the factory..either a 454 (if it is indeed a big block)...or a 400 small block.

I say 400...mainly because I didn't think you could get a big block and a column shift as a combo....but I could be wrong. What does the glovebox sticker say on it for an engine?

Either way...sounds like a good deal to me.

Re: whats it worth

402 was last offered in 1972. All 73-79's had the option of the 454 ONLY for a BBC.
