I got a huge utility radiator from my buddys brother and installed it in my truck. I had to remove the overflow tank to make it fit. But it takes like 5 gallons of coolant. Its flipping huge. Anyways theres about a 3/4" opening in it that I will not need to use for anything. I got it plugged up tempoairlily but I know it will not hold up. Should I just take it to the radiator shop and ask them to close it up for me or is there something simple I could do to plugg it that will hold for awhile.

I know its pretty big but it works perfectly and I got it for 15 $$ so I thought I might as well use it.

You know you can over cool an engine right?

And it will not perform the way it should.

He's right. If it doesn't hit optimal temperature then it doesn't have the best efficency to burn off the fuel air mixture. It would be like cooking something in the oven on a low heat that requires a high heat. It would get warm but never get cooked right.

Get two of those HELP caps & put one in a ziplock bag in the glovebox. They tend to crack & leak a lot faster than you may think.

Do you think that this radiator is going to keep it too kool? Seems to be running fine so far. Same as it did before.

Once it gets up to operating temperature, with a thermostat, it should run at the same temperature all the time.

Im gonna have to disagree with this statement!

Remember the Tstat holds water in the block for heat xfer then when the water is heat soaked the Tstat opens now you have super cooled water entering into the block due to a 5 gallon rad this water is gonna cool down way faster than it would in the proper size rad. Thus not allowing the Eng. to reach proper operating temp's.

If it cools down too much the thermostat will close off a little until it reaches a state of equilibrium.

Thats what Thermostats are for, the thermostat would just open and let cool coolant in (that sounded funny

) and then close again. In theory it would take longer to heat all the coolant in the radiator, but with a properly functioning T-stat it would be quite the cooling system

I wouldnt worry about it. And for towing and stuff it would be the ticket.
