Re: Wdygdtw 10/6

Had a good time helping you out and meeting the other guys. You scored on that bed and all of the other parts!

I got all of my new rear brake lines made and installed. Just need to order a rear brake hose now. I also got the tranny fluid changed in the Saginaw 3 speed.

And I learned that 80W90 gear oil stinks to high hell if you spill a quart all over your shoes.

Glad to help.
Looks like Brake Check did a fine job on my front end alignment afterall. Very pleased with the results.

Re: Wdygdtw 10/6

I bought pieces that were close to the right length at auto zone. Then I cut, reflared and shaped them. We will see how well my double flaring skills are. The only thing I had to change was the front to rear line along the frame rail is now a 2 piece line. I did not want to buy 25 feet of the line just to make one 8 footer.

The line I bought for the master cylinder was the wrong diameter, but I was able to make one up out of the trimmed pieces and I was able to reuse the fittings. All in all, about $40 in new lines and a HF double flaring tool.

Re: Wdygdtw 10/6

Friday and Saturday I welded up the old mirror holes in my two doors. I also cleaned the inside of the cab some more and painted the areas behind the doors and under where the tank sat with Eastwood Rust Encapsulator. Cleaned up the welds from the fuel neck and mirror patches. Filled in the cab seam with new sealer, then sand, sand, sand, and sand. Crap there is a lot to sand!

Today I had contractors working on my roof replacement (thanks Katrina). I also got to talk with Krazy Texan since he is now in our neck of the woods. I'll be hopefully meeting up with him next weekend.

Oh did I say,,,crap there is a lot to sand!

I bought the flaring tool and a cheap bender, both from Harbor Freight. The flaring was a pain, but I think I got the hang of it. But I won't know for sure until I add some fluid and check everything. Need to buy a new rear hose first.

My shaping skills suck. The lines don't look great, but I think they fit the overall beater image of the truck

Re: Wdygdtw 10/6

I didn't do anything "to" my truck, but I did get out and enjoy it! I spent the weekend hunting elk, and My father in law killed one Sunday. I was out in my trusty billy goat bred 72 K5 Blazer. Man that was fun. I think we all need to get out and drive these things once in a while to remind us of why we work on them so much. Man Granny lo in 4 low will climb a mountain without touching the gas (I know from experience)!

Re: Wdygdtw 10/6

Well I hate to say it but the truck got ignored all weekend. I didn't even make my dump run in it, it sat all weekend. On the other hand, since I just picked up my 79 Corvette last Monday, I bet you can guess what I spent all weekend tinkering on. I got the engine and underside powerwashed, got the broken turn signal lever replaced, got the valve cover gaskets replaced and went to talk to the guy who's going to paint it. He's also going to put a new dash in it for me next weekend which for the price he quoted me, everyone I've talked to said I'd be crazy not to pay someone to do it for me.
