E-brake/auto trans66
Has anyone solved the problem of mounting a 350 trans in a '66 where the emergency brake mechanism is right in the way? Can this be done without eliminating the e-brake?
I believe my frame is from an older truck but haven't been able to identify it and the crossmember for the original 3-speed manual is several inches forward of the mounting point for the 350. Just moving the crossmember back would not solve the problem of the e-brake bracket/cables running through that spot. Suggestions? |

Re: E-brake/auto trans66
the '66 has a different e-brake system than the '60-'65 e-brake.
I installed a '66 and up type system in my '65 which has a 350 eng and 350 tranny in it... -W |

Woogeroo-
Thanks - once again you've straightened me out. Guess I'll be scrounging specifically for a '66 parts truck for this if I keep the TH350. I'd read the 66 e-brake was different but didn't know in what way. This confirms I have an older frame under my truck. Will keep your site bookmarked for reference. |

Re: E-brake/auto trans66
since the brake cables changed in 66 and the frame is mostly the same to 72,you don't suppose the cables would be the same from 66-72?

Re: E-brake/auto trans66
The emergency brake setup is the same from 66 to 68. Chevrolet changed from the arm/lever system on the transmission crossmember, 65 and older, to the later style suspended cable in 66. The 67-68 setup was the same, having the emergency brake lever mounted horizontally under the steering column like the earlier body styles. Alot of the hardware for the setup is available from different suppliers. By the way, steverino66, welcome to the board from Louisiana. Kevin

Re: E-brake/auto trans66
if you have the parts inside the rear drums and the lever under the dash - you need the cables which most vendors carry... there is one part, which is a rod that sticks through a hole in the frame under the passenger side that is part of the system of holding the cables in line.
