spark plug suggestions - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Getting ready do replace wires and plugs. I have an accell HEI with msd module and accell super coil. built 355 around 330 hp.

I am looking at NGK ugrooves or good ole ac delco. Two question
Which ones do you suggest part (ie acdelco r45) and what gap thinking .45 or so?

I know this is a debatable subject but just need help deciding.

Personally I'd go with ac delco r45ts if you have small plug heads(5/8) or the r 45 if you have the big plug heads(13/16). Out of all the othe plugs out there ngk would be the only other thing I'd run other than delco. Just my .02 cents.

Stock is a .35 gap. I dont know if Id go over .40

What gap are you running now? Increase it a little and see how it
runs, you can always gap them bigger after a few days.

Run .45, with and HEI and bigger coil it should be able to throw a longer hotter spark.

I've used Autolite 25's in every SBC I've owned (well, that's only been 4), but they work well for me.

I had R44's with the stock points distributor but went to R45TS plugs, they burn really clean and I never had a problem with 'em.

Autolites for me too. I bought one set of AC's for my 79, one plug was dead....I ended up having to use of the Autolites I took out.

Autolite 26's for me. I don't buy any of the fancy spark plug gimmicks.

.045 gap is proper for an HEI system.

26's are what... 1 step colder I believe?

I run Autolite AP 26 plugs and like them.

What ever you run, get something with an extended tip, runs cleaner and puts the spark that much closer to the center for faster burn. I've been using champions, but some don't like champions.

I didn't like the cheap Autolites I bought, I have had good luck with Bosch Platinum plugs, the low cost ones, always had good luck with them, they cost a little more than AC and Autolite but they are worth it.
