looking for huck
I was told you were the one for advice. I've got a 67 4 speed truck and I'm thinking of swapping in a modern truck 5 speed. How hard is this?

Howdy~~~the late model 1/2 ton truck 5 speed is a sweet unit for everyday driving. Decent 1st gear and super overdrive 5th. The case is aluminum and light compared to the stock 4 speed. Only problem is that the newer units are built for an electronic speedo sensor verses cable drive.
My 5speed cost $650 with clutch and master cylinder and front driveshaft spline . You will have to cut a hole thru your firewall to allow placement of your master cylinder, modify your clutch actuator shaft to push the rod on you master cylinder, utilize an automatic trans crossmember to support the rear of the tranny, remove the stock manual crossmember---bellhousing, linkage, etc. Finally you will have to modify the front drive shaft length. The hole deal can be easily done in a day and final cost should be under $1K which is less then a reworked 700R4. With a 308 rear, I typically get 20+mpg on the highway running 75 with a crate 350, edelbrock, headers, HEI, straight duals. And I personally drove hucks daily drivered 5 speed truck, and I have to say, WOW.
If you have the time, money and patients, and lookin to overdrive a stick shift truck...take the time to talk to huck before just tossing something in on the old bellhousing. |

I am seriously considering the swap. My Father-in-law has already picked up a motor/trans combination to replace his 307/3-speed. So I could definetly use those pics and details. Thanks Eric |
