Ford 9" Into A Chevy Pick Up
Anyone with info or links on how to properly install a ford 9" differential into a Chevy pick up. Novice at this and would like some info or web sites that explain how to do it properly. Especially getting the pinionshaft and trany lined up properly. Any help appreciated. Thanks

I'm pretty sure SanitysBane has a Ford rear in his truck. You might PM him if he does not drop in.

Re: Ford 9" Into A Chevy Pick Up
i have a 9 in in my 86 chevy also the pinoion pitch wasnt a concern of mine when i built it but i didnt notice any diffrents after it was in, i just cut of the chevy brackets and welded to the ford so that it was a direct bolt in. it has disc brakes. i spent a little extra money and had the ford yolk to the chevy driveshaft so that i coukld just buy a u joint for thwe lincoln car and be happy they also make a chevy ford combo i wasnt interessted in that basically i just eyeballed the to rear ends to match and started welding

Re: Ford 9" Into A Chevy Pick Up
Hey hey I heard my name. Yeah I got a 9 under my ride. It came out of a mid 80s F-150, and is about 1/2inch wider than the factory GM rearend. We used the shock mounts off of the GM rear end, and used the Ford spring perches. We used an angle measure and with the jok perpindicular to the ground and measured the angle on the perch. We then did a TON of measurements and got the springs perches the correct length apart and then did the same thing with getting the perches back on. Got the jok perpindicular to the ground and used the angle measure. Got my truck(83 Long bed with 700R4) I used a jok out of a the mid80's pick up and then used a drive shaft out of a 1988 chevy pick up, 1/2ton 2WD 700R4 long box, and used a conversion rear u-joint. We also kept the drums in the rear and just bolted on the brake line from the Gm to the Ford. We also rebuilt the center section and redrilled the axles and brake drums and total it took around a week give or take. All in all I am very satisfied with everything. If you need any pictures of anything, just give me a shout.
Sorry I can't spell worth beans...

Re: Ford 9" Into A Chevy Pick Up
The rearend is 1/2inch wider total, so only 1/4 per side. Not really noticeable, plus the rear track it narrower than the front on these trucks from the factory.
