What ever happend to the side pipe look?
Hey fella's got a ? about putting a set of Patriot sidepipes on my 76 GMC Sierra shortbed pu. Anybody ever run a set of them before? if so how'ed they sound and perform? The set i have in mind, have a 2 1/2 inlet and a 3" outlet, which would mate right up with the 2 1/2 collecter attached to the headers. The trucks gonna sit about a foot off the ground, so ground clearance is not a problem. Besides, the drone you get with the flowmaster mufflers would get on my nurves in time. (Oppinions Please)

I've never ran them. I think arveetek was running them on his diesel but it may have been stacks instead running through the bed. I like them on the right truck but that's IMO.

Yeah gotcha, The way the rockers curve down around on the 73 to 80 C10 cabs, i feel that a set of side pipes would look good.

Re: What ever happend to the side pipe look?
personally, i'm a fan of the old skool hot rod look in these trucks... as well as the new style of bagging, shaving, smooth lines too... with my resto project, i went hot rod style and put my "side pipes" vertical! i love the unique look and the sound.
i acutally had stainless 2.5" pipe, which is my entire exhaust system, and i spend 1/2 a day calling summit racing, and then every number for patriot exhausts... to get the part # for the exhaust heat shields... and i finally got them... and am very pleased with the results. |

Side pipes are for vettes...putting them on a full-size truck is like putting a giant wing on the back. Friends don't let friends run side pipes. Just say no!

Re: What ever happend to the side pipe look?
Mommas quit naming their boys,Bubba,a while back and eventually all the Old Bubbas died off and there was no longer a need for side pipes.
Good Luck Tom PS: I won't say how I know, but if you don't like the drone of flowmasters, you sure won't like side pipes. "Bubba Tom".

Re: What ever happend to the side pipe look?
I liked the side-pipes on my truck. The only reason I got rid of them was when I went to a 4" single exhaust for my turbo, as stated. They weren't too loud, but they did rumble quite a bit in the cab due to the fact that they were bolted to the body. I even insulated them with home-made rubber hangers, but there was still quite a bit of vibration and such. It was pretty cool but could get on your nerves on long trips.
I have video of my truck doing a drive-by that was shot at the Oklahoma meet in 2002, but it takes too long to upload on dial-up....anyone else that has that video want to post it? Yes, side-pipes are 'old-school,' but I still think they're cool. It all boils down to personal preference. I don't care for bagged trucks with large wheels and small tires, but again, that's just my personal preference. Must be a generational thing....even though I'm only 29! Casey

Re: What ever happend to the side pipe look?
I think the side pipes look great on "big rigs" but I do not like the look of them on our trucks. But that is just me.
