how to tell what year front axle?
I know that I dont have the front axle that came with the truck as I have a '67 4x4 ,the axle in there now has disc brakes and when I put the front lift in the u bolts didnt fit, they were 3 inch and the axle needed 3 1/4 . I was cleaning up the cv joint and noticed spicer written on it.Just curious as how to tell for sure.KD

Are the knuckles closed (enclosed in a globe) or open (with the u-joint visible inside)?

I might be wrong in thinking this but if I remeber some of the U-bolts on the front axle are diffent sizes depending on where on the axle they are.. my dana 44 has a disc brake conversion and is a 1970, it has smaller u-joints then the later one if I was to use the later shafts...I am sure there's a difference in the diameter of the axle tube itself, with the earlier design being smaller. I think I had to reuse the u-bolts I had made for the front the previous spring to get my lift to work. hope this helps, or atleast helps somone else point you in the right direction
