Headliner considered sacrilege? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I have considered two different style headliners. My first question is would this be considered a mod that will ruin the character of the Blazer?

We constantly are looking for ways to quiet down our rigs and a nice headliner with sound deadener would do it.

My first thought was to make masonite panels and adhere them to the three recessed areas of the top. Leaving the rest of the top original. Even these three upholstered panels would quiet her down pretty good.

My next idea was a full blown headliner.

What do you guys think?

Sounds a little 70's. Maybe you should put some mirror tiles on there?

Is your rig 4wd or 2wd? I think a full headliner might look better. Put some dynamat under it first. I'd be concerned with the thing falling off.

Have you layed down some sound insullation on floors? The Fatmat install i did recently quieted down the truck tons. I'd go that route before any thoughts of a headliner. If anything, use Fatmat on the the ceiling.

I have a headliner in my blazer from the previous owner and it sucks azz it always falls down and needs to be reglued when I replace the top this yaer I am not going with a headliner...

Yeah, definitely sacrilege.

I'd go for some dynamatt or similar on the floors/bed/doors first and see how you like that before going to the trouble of a headliner.

I've used Dynamat type products numerous times over the years. It seems like the cab is quieter with the top off.

i bought a top off of raggedjim and it had a headliner in it when i picked it up. and i have never bothered to take it out yet. it actually doesnt look to bad and i believe it does quiet the thing down some

Disclaimer: I didn't put the liner in, I bought and sold it without ever putting it on. It wasn't a bad top, well worth the price.

I have been thinking about doing my top inside and out with spray on bed liner.

Hardtops have a inner fiberglass surface which will bounce noise all over the cab. If you have a carpeted floor, you could cover door panels, rear quarter panels, inner tailgate, etc with a material with or without a dynamat noise silencer. You could use a "in door-out door carpet type material" as a headliner and the interior noise will be significantly reduced. Could come out looking a bit tacky butttt, I've seen many a custom rod with complete fabric inners that look fabulous and sound super. You can actually hold a conversation in the Blazer!! heheheh Huck
