Electronic fuel pump and water pump suggestions
I am requesting some fuel pump suggestions for my vortec engine going in my 70 c 10. The engine is stock other than a MSD ready to run ignition and edelbrock carb and intake, probably going to have headers.
I need a basic electronic fuel pump, I do not want to run a return line unless absolutley necessary. Will i run a long water pump with this engine? - it still has the factory timing cover. Thanks for all the help chevybill

Re: Electronic fuel pump and water pump suggestions
You have the right idea by not needing a monster pump. Just stay away from the Holley red or blue pumps. They're very noisy and don't have the best reputation. Holley's new pump (not sure what it's called) is more than you need, but it sounds like a nice redesign that should be much quieter.

Re: Electronic fuel pump and water pump suggestions
ChevyBill, I am using a Purolator fuel pump:
http://www.midwayautosupply.com/deta...ption.asp?2807 Also Im using a long pump. I also used the 6cyl mounts, using no shroud.......so far no overheating issues. The only thing about the pump....I have it mounted close to the stock location, which I dont think is advised. And it is loud...sometimes louder than the engine. I also run a 600 Holley and a "cheapo" dial type pressue regulator set at 3.5 lb. The Purolator pump puts out a 6-7 lb.

Re: Electronic fuel pump and water pump suggestions
You may not need the regulator...I was having flooding problems, and a friend told me too much fuel pressure would cause needle and seat problems. After replacing needles and seats, and using the regulator, the problem has gone away.
Also Im not running a return line. BTW did you get the distributor dropped in yet? Keep us posted.

no dizzy dropped in yet, i am taking my bed next week for sandblasting ( only bed floor to be blasted)and then all the body work will be finalized. i am also going to a local yard to try and find a hydraulic clutch pedal assembly to connect the nv 3500 tranny.

Re: Electronic fuel pump and water pump suggestions
place the punp back by the tank, it'll live longer.
As for the water punp... you'll need one to work with what ever brackets you are going to use. If you go with the stock (for the engein) serp set up, then the pump for a 94 or what ever vortec 350 will do. If you are going to use the stock 69 - 72 brackets, (make sure you CAN...there is a hole missing on these heads) then you'll want a short pump. Brackets from after 72 truck (after 69 car) then you'll need the long pump. |
