1970 4-speed transmission question

On my option list it says the 4-speed option is M-20. Is this really M-420? Thanks

There was a SM420, SM 465, and a third 4 speed available in light trucks, I think, or am I wrong? Sort of like the T10?

the SM420 was used up to and including '67
SM465 is '68 on up.

the NP435 (wide & close ratio) were optional for some pre '72 trucks.

my 68 HAD a sm465. if you crawl under and look at the tranny, there will be what looks like access plates. if its a sm 420 it will only have one (not sure what side) and if it is a 465 it will have one on each side. these are for PTOs

Re: 1970 4-speed transmission question

Seen the 420 in 69 gmc 4x4s too.

the other 4spds are a sm435 and sm465

the 420 has pto port of drivers side only
