Where to cut drive shaft?
Guys, I'll be putting in a 700r4 and need to cut the shaft 2.5 inches, should I cut it at the end or in the middle or does it matter where? Tks.

Re: Where to cut drive shaft?
Have it done professionally, the balancing is very important. They are going to cut it at one end or the other, never in the middle.

Re: Where to cut drive shaft?
Usually they put the shaft in a lathe and turn down the welds on one end or the other to get the yoke free, then cut the tube, true it on the lathe, then press the yoke back in a seam-weld it.

Re: Where to cut drive shaft?
Your best bet is too have them shoten and balance the one you allready have. You never know what happened to the one in the boneyard. I used to work at a driveshaft shop and the shop manager wouldn't even try to straighten and balance one from a junk yard.

Re: Where to cut drive shaft?
Yep, it's all good info so far.
Had mine done couple weeks ago, cost $50 to shorten and $60 to balance. |
