Howto: Seal ff 14bolt axels
Dumb question but I can't find any old topics on this. I'm switching out an old ho72 rear end on my 68 k20 for a 14bolt ff rear end. I noticed the last person sealed the axels with silicone, is the a common practice ? I would think I could get gaskets or something better than gooping silicone to seal these axels. The guys at the parts store have no clue.

You talking about the cover? I have seen it done. You can get a gasket for them but I have seen places use silicone.

The axles actually have a steel gasket. I cannot find the correct # right now but if you call GM and ask for group 5.819 parts they should be able tolocate it.

The steel shim gasket is no longer available at GM. What they have now is a paper gasket. Silicone will work however, just don't get carried away with it.

I believe that it is the same as the Eaton Axle flange gasket
Felpro # 55350, $2 or $3 ea these are the steel ones, makes it alot neater than silicone.
