72 vs 73 BBC engine mount towers

What are the differences between 1972 vs 73 Big Block engine mount towers? I need a set for my 72 sb to bbc conversion . I can buy new 73 towers at my local GM dealer for aprox $29 each . Do they fit the same holes ? I can't find any used at the wreckers in my area. Whatta ya think ??

Re: 72 vs 73 BBC engine mount towers

I just went through this about 2 weeks ago. The bolt holes on the 73+ wont line up. You will have to drill them and hope you have your engine placement is right or your transmission crossmember wont line up with the holes in the frame. You also have to worry about driveshaft length. The 72's fit without any modifications. I can get you pics of the 72 mounts if you want. I know where an extra set are.

Yeah , pics would be very helpful , i'm not sure what i'm looking for . I did buy the stands for a 67-71 , but i'd really like to find the 72's . That extra set is not for sale , is it ??
Many thanks.

Also 73-up frames are 1/2" taller too. I ran into that with 4X4 engine crossmembers.

Here's a couple pics of the 72 style mounts. The 73+ have 2 of the "bumps" on the top of the frame mount compared to the 72's 1 "bump".

Only some of them. I'm not sure what the rule is though. My 74 gmc 454 c10 had the 1/2" taller frame. But a 73 c20 and a 78 c20 crew cab had the same height frames as my 70.
