Quick question - Oil capacity

Whats the oil capacity of a 350?
What is the oil capacity of a turbo 350 tranny?

My 383 is newly rebuilt, hasnt been run since it left the dyno at the shop, so whats a good break in oil?

Re: Quick question - Oil capacity

350. 5.5 quarts.
the 350 trans could hold anywhears from 6 to 14 depending on if the torque converter is filled.

everyone will state ther opinions on what makes a good break in oil but the truth is there really isin't a holy grail for oil. just buy something that is quality. it wouldn't hurt to put an additive such as ER Energy Release in the engine though. better safe than sorry i say.

make sure you check your oil often durring the break in period. beleive it or not a fresh build will burn a little bit of oil at first.

383 sweet!!! so what was the stats on the dyno?

Re: Quick question - Oil capacity

Thanks for the numbers. Ive heard something about natural vs. synthetic as far as break in oil, one being much better than the other...

Kinda got screwed on my dyno run, the shop, although its a very reputable shop, put my engine on and ran it with my crapped out Edelbrock carb and it just couldnt pull through. They said it topped off at about 320 HP, but said with a Holley 650 double pumper, which I bought, it should be about 380HP and 400 ft/lbs torque.

Re: Quick question - Oil capacity

Usual wisdom say not to use synthetic during breakin, most any 10-30 shoud work. I would add a bottle of GM engine oil supplement (EOS), think it has some zinc in it to help cam and lifters not scuff during breakin, IIRC the oil companies have reduced the amount of zinc in the oils now so that may help. I would not run EOS after breakin period, should not be needed then. Also use a very good filter, especially now, NAPA(wix) or AC, most anything except a FRAM.
