After 2 years at the body shop (don't ask!) I got my truck home. The battery was shot and I went looking for a replacement. It seems that "Group 74" batteries are not really common and I believe these are the ones needed for my 72 Blazer. Has anyone has the same problem?

Also, I decided to change my rusty battery tray, but it seems that 3 of the bolts require me to remove the radiator. Is this necessary to replace the tray?

If you can loosen up the radiator mounts on the top and slide the radiator to the side, you can get to the bolts. I just run a regular top mount battery from Autozone in all of my vehicles. There are probably better ones out there, but they warranty them and they are fairly cheap. Jeff.

I have a group 25 in mine, works like a champ. Ditto on the instructions above, that's how I replaced mine a couple months back.

Red top Optima here too and a new Battery Tray.
I used a universal clamp on top to hold it in place had
to modify the long threaded rods but that Battery is in
there to stay no more bouncing around. I think thats
why my Batterys never lasted more than 18 months.

I will be battery shopping this week. My Napa battery cranked it's last crank. wont ever take a charge. I switch over to side terminals a while back.

I found an AC Delco Group 74 battery on line, but the guy can't ship batteries. I called my local Chevy dealer and they got me the same AC Delco battery for the same price. Thanks for the advice on the battery tray. I will put it in and be ready to go!

If you're interested in a reproduction vintage battery I found those for $285.00
