I was looking for something a little different for my truck, while still having something that looks like it belongs....the new sunpro's are nice, but I felt they would look a little too out of place in my plane jane.....I think the face on this should work really well with the original gauges....the bottom of the needle is hidden, so the fact that it doesn't have the big circle for a pivot point shouldn't stand out too much.

Looks like a tach from an early 60's GM. What did it come out of?

no idea, it wasn't noted in the auction, I think its an aftemarket gauge because it has a switch for 6 or 8 cyl....RAC is the OEM.....now comes the pain of seeing exactly how much my engine is screaming....I mean reving when I shift through the saginaw into the 4.56's gears!
I am told this tach requires no transmitter....can someone give me a 'hooking up a tach for dummies' briefing?

$24.....$32 with trip.......it was cheaper than the sunpro I was looking at in advanced autoparts the other day......so I guess I can justify it that way

yellow, green, black, and red looking at another similar tach I found on ebay....but I have yet to receive the actual item....if that makes sense, walk me through it...if not.....let me know, and I will have to get back to ya!

yellow - probably lights, I believe most tachs are white for lights

Can anyone elaborate on the wire situation.....I am the worlds worst electrician.....the dist. signal....do I just hook a lead to the coil for that?

the ground I think.....yeah, I can handle that one.

Red to power, I can probably just piggy it off of an existing fuse, but I wanted to check, what should the rating for the fuse be? 15a, 30a, ???

Yellow for lights.....again with the confused, do I just piggy back this wire off of the light circuit....so when I turn on my lights, the tach lights? any inline fuse recommended....or should the existing fuse be fine?

ok, the confusino continues......just got the tach yesterday....it is gonig to cover the middle cutout on the dash nicely, and will later be installed behind that.....but thats later....
right now I have 5 wires and do not know what to hook them too....I have a black, red, green, yellow and blue....according to a previous post, I think the yellow might go to the lights, so would the blue be the ground for those? Also, answers to the questions above with respect to how to properly install said tach would be greatly appreciated (what to hook to and any fuses required).

ttt its a new day, and I am still clueless as to what the wires go to!
to clarify above....the blue and yellow wires are together when the tach is opened up.
The red, black, and green wires are also grouped together.
There are also two white wires that are cut and taped off......I was told that the tach worked properly before being removed, so I don't know what those wires could do.

The green wire will go to your distributor. If it is an HEI unit, it has a terminal marked "tach" on it next to the power wire. If it a points-type distributor, then the green wire, I believe needs to be connected to the negative post (verify this first) of the coil. As for the red, you can connect that to the "ign unfused" terminal on your fuse block. There is a terminal on your fuse block, as well, for the light wire. I think there is a picture with labels of a fuse block in FAQ section. Your wiring seems to be different than the general or generic tach. There may also be a switch on the back of the tach for 4,6, or 8 cylinder engines.
