I'm in the same boat...onless it is just a light resurface, I won't put any $$ into old heads either.
The Vortecs, you can save some cash at the junk yard. THe valve guided rockers and valve covers can be found in a junk yard untill later. When doing all that work to the old heads, don't forget to figure in hardened exhaust seats. And if it has no acc holes, figure in new brackets too. ------------------ '69 G.M.C. 350/350.
