What tranny did your truck come with?

This is specificly for the 3/4 ton or one ton small block/automatic 2 wheel drive trucks here...
I've had 3 Longhorns now if you include the parts whore that got cut up last month.
70 CST/20
70 C/30
72 Cheyenne/20

Both of the 1970 had 350 small blocks, and the 72 had a 307.
All 3 had TH350 in them originally.

Everyone who asks about my trucks, is always confuised about the TH350. Why mine would have come with the small tranny instead of the beefy TH400.
So what else is out there small block heavy truck guys... was the TH400 only with big blocks, or what?

Re: What tranny did your truck come with?

The cab on my truck is from a 1970 C20 Longhorn, model number is CE21034 I think. It had the LS9 350 and M49 Turbo-Hydramatic for the drive train options, but the frame and suspension of my truck is actually a 1970 C/20 cab-and-chassis. It also had the LS9 350 but had a SM465 stick shift, used to be light blue and had a farm stakebed on it. Right now it has a 350 2 bolt main engine, and a TH400 auto. Rear end is the original Eaton with 4.10's. Isn't that the correct ratio for a truck with a 350/SM465? Or was it 4.56?

Re: What tranny did your truck come with?

I"m glad this post came up. My Suburban is a 1969 3/4 ton 2WD. It has a 400 in it. The serial number is CE249F887988, but lists option code 4M35JA & PowerGlide transmission. It seems odd to me that they would have a Powerglide in a 3/4ton. I didn't think they were that strong. I haven't looked at the serial numbers on the tranny yet to see if it is from '69. I doubt that it is since I do not have a kickdown switch.

Re: What tranny did your truck come with?

My truck started life as a Open Road motorhome,327 with a 400TH that what the tag said in the glove box and what was in it when I bought it. I've found two more Open Roads with the same drive trans setup. One of which I hope to own this spring.

Re: What tranny did your truck come with?

My 67 C20 came with a 327 and TH400. It also has heavy duty springs and a4.57 rearend. Guy must have known it was going to be a worker. The tranny has used up at least two motors, the 327, a 307, and is currently taking the abuse from a healthy 454.

Re: What tranny did your truck come with?

Mine had 402/th400 setup, don't know what the rear gears are yet.

The option sticker said M49 too, but the trans i.d. chart in LMC cat., the placement of my modulator shows it is a th400

I just got the resto pkg from GM which showed the option lineups that could come from the factory, but by the sounds of it, they did not bother following the book all the time.

my 2 cents

Andy, you know the TH400 not only came with BB's, since you only mentioned small blocks and BB I don't need to apply.

Re: What tranny did your truck come with?

My C-20 came with 350 in front of a powerglide with 3:73 rear, I believe this is all original P/O did not mention any change in drive train. He bought it new in 1972 ran it localy till 1992 accumalating a whopping 32000 original miles when he parked it behind the barn where we got it from 2003

HAVE A GREAT DAY
