How to ID a Stepside
Tell me guys and gals, how can you ID a Stepside shortbed is there something in the VIN number. I know of a 67 stepside with factory a/c power steering, power brakes. I have never heard of a stepside with all these stock options.

For 1/2 tons, the model numbers for stepsides are CS10704 for a SWB 6cyl, CE10704 for a SWB 8 cyl, CS10904 for a LWB 6cly and CE10904 for a LWB 8 cylinder engine. These might show up on the glovebox sticker if it is still there.
Here is a site that has VIN decoders for our trucks. Hope it helps a little.

Step side trucks could be had with just about any option that a fleet side could have, there were even step side CST and Cyeyenne trucks built.

The VI # is CE147B126520 i'M JUST TRYING TO MAKE SURE THIS TRUCK HAS ALWAYS AN ORGINAL STEPSIDE TRUCK NOT A PIECE TOGETHER.

You'll need the model number, not the VIN. The model number is in the glove box on the SPID label (option sheet)
If the SPID label is gone, then you MIGHT get lucky by pulling the seat and looking for the build sheet stuffed into the springs. Once in a great whiel the build sheet...or broadcast sheet, will show up under the carpet or betewwn the rear cab wall and fuel tank...but those ones are far and few between. With out either of these pieces of documentation, you'll NEVER know the originality of that bed. All your VIN tells us is; C - 2 wheel drive E - A V-8 of what ever size 1 - 1/2 ton 4 - Pickup with Cab and Bed (not specifying which bed) 7 - 1967 B - Baltimore assembly plant 126520 The 26520th truck to roll off the Baltimore line for the 67 model year. http://www.67-72chevytrucks.com/Chevyear.html Last edited by Longhorn Man; 11-29-2005 at 11:25 PM. |

We have a member who owns a green one...don't know if he's active or not, this was 1 1/2 to 2 years ago he came around.
On the outside it looks like any other stepside, except it has a red cheyene badge on the fender and a chrome bumper. |
