Snow's Coming! (I think?) - Front shaft Q's!
Installed a dual exhaust and headers this past weekend and discovered my front driveshaft spins freely at the slip joint.
This doesn't seem right. I have 350sbc/CH-SM465/NP205. Can these be rebuilt or resplined. Or, should I crawl the boneyard Saturday?

They can be repared but they will cut the old splined section off and weld a new one on. It should also be balanced. It might be easier to buy one if you don't have a good place near by that can do it.

Thanks Gary. I've got a driveline shop 2 blocks from the office. That will do exactly that for $105. But will charge only $10 for a balance of a salvaged one.
So, I'm crawling the junkyard this weekend.

That's the best way to go, find a used one!! Heck, if you were close to me, I'd GIVE you one!! As I have about 4-6 front shafts that are just laying around collecting dust, and in my way!!!

Re: Snow's Coming! (I think?) - Front shaft Q's!
toroflow,
do you have a used front driveshaft for a 71/72 K20 that you would like to sell?? My shafts both have siezed up slip yokes. I'm looking for one that has a good working slip yoke and I'll replace the U-joints throughout. Thanks for looking, 72longbed |
