Hiya guys

Im a die hard ford fan who happens to own and love a Suburban, So please play nice kay?

I have an 83 Suburban, 6.2 diesel, 4x4 and am interested in information on My axles, transfer case and transmission, and how to ID them.

Also interested in knowing if their is a VIN tag that will tell me my Gear Ratio without jacking it up and doing it the hard way

on your glove box door there is a sticker with a bunch of 3 digits code the axle ratio should be something like this gt4 gt5 gt3 if its a locker it with the g80 option if u can get a clear close up picture i can identify all the code for you wlptmp@verizon.net

By the year of the truck the axles wil be 10bolt fr/rr for a 1/2T and the transfer case is NP208. Assuming everything is like it came from GM.

The diesels had the TH400 trans in a 3/4t.Same in a 1/2t unless you have o/d,then it`s a 700r4.

It is a 700r4 then,because it has overdrive, thanks

and it is an np208, thats a common tcase for fords too, and I recognize that by looking at it, Ive never really poked around other than to change oil and stuff....

Its dark and cold out so I wasnt crawling on the ground to look, so I assume its a 10 bolt.

That just leaves me with my rear end ratio, I found nothing in the glove box at all

thanks for the help, what possible ratios did these come with? Ill just do it the hard way and "spin and count"

I have 4.10's in my 'Burb. Hope this helps.

My`91 3/4t 4wd 6.2 Suburban has 4.10s.All those codes in the glovebox has it hidden in there somewhere.It could be 3.73sor 3.40s,I`m kinda doubting as high as 3.08s although it was a common ratio,mostly in Blazers.
