I ordered an engine stand from JC Whitney, and it recently came in. I had to run to Lowe's to get some additional washers (the ones supplied were too small and/or too few).

What size of engine are you using your stand for ? just curious .... Joe

The 1967 250 cu. in. inline 6 cylinder. I figure 750 lb. capacity should be more than enough.

Just be careful. If engine not postioned right, those 3 legged stands can fall over. Hate to be a bummer. Have seen it happen. That's why I used a 4 legged stand. Just my $.02.

Ditto. I got a 1-ton stand, fold-up with four legs and five support wheels. That thing was about bent over from the weight of my inlines. Be very careful. Before you unbolt the engine from the cherry picker, loosen up the slack enough that it won't hit the floor if something breaks, then be sure to bounce it up and down on that stand a couple times really good to make sure the stand ain't gonna snap.

Had that happen to me. I had my rebuilt engine on it and it tipped over, I was being very careful but it still happened. All I lost was the alternator bracket, I was lucky for sure!

I also had a 3 wheeled engine stand tip over on me, lost the power steering pump & pulley. I was thinking of modifying mine and making it a 4wheeler. Has anyone done this before ???

Not hard to do Gary. Then again, you can borrow mine if you like. I am done with motors for a while.

wow, this sounds like a pretty common problem. perhaps I should have gone with the stand with 4 wheels. Maybe I can rig up some extra supports with 2x4's.

you'll be fine just make sure your lube the wheels
