First of all, hello from Southern Indiana.

When I was 14 I started looking for a truck, 67-72 of course. When I was 15 I found one a few miles from my house. It ended up being a longhorn, but I didn't know what a longhorn was, and neither did the owner. I convinced my parents to let me buy it which was dumb becuase it has a 402, and the gas mileage sucked. BUt now I can say that it was the smartest thing I've ever done. I got an unbelievable price on it and it was in really good condition, having been restored about eight years earlier. When I go home this weekend from Purdue I'll take pictures and post some so I can show it off to people who actually know what a longhorn is.

This started as a resto on a well worn So Cal longhorn......wife/family/ house /cars ,ect came 1st. Well hotrod fever took over,& 21 yrs later.....still no paint work..... http://community.webshots.com/user/hotrodhorn she still gets a "thumbs up" when she ventures out of the garage

congrates on the purchase, and welcome to the board. If you get a deal on one of these trucks, and plan on fixing/upgrading some stuff, its never a bad deal....I honestly feel like 'breaking even' is very possible with these trucks if the initial purchase and build are done with an economical goal.
As for fuel mileage....there is a poll going on right now that might give you an idea of how you can work the truck to get better (or worse) mpg....good place to start.

i remeber indiana's girls coming to louisville to party some of the country girls party real hard also i remeber about indiana is how awesome the tree would change colors in fall dont see that in california

My longhorn doesn't make much of anywhere nowadays. No insurance on her for awhile. I know insurance isn't that expensive, but to a college kid with not much money insurance is quite a chunk of change. My truck has never gone to Purdue. That would be 185 miles or so and that would be one heck of a gas bill. Just glad I got the truck, and can't wait until i can get the insurance and take it cruisin.

Thanks for the welcomes. I still can't believe the deal I got on my truck and I bought it about 5 years ago. The body was in great condition, the only thing wrong with it was a decent dent in the side of the bed(old owner backed into it with a trailer on his lawnmower), and it had a goodlooking tailgait but a crease in the middle. Had good paint, just a few chips here and there, but between when I bought it and now my brother backed into it with his 70 C10 and broke my reflector on the front quaterpanel, and my mom parked it by the fence and the horse chewed some paint off the back of the bed, what luck huh? One question, it's a Longhorn, camper special, cheyenne, was it common for these packages to be together?

If I was collecting dues... I'd be WAY behind.

As far as it being a Longhorn, camper special, cheyenne... one thiong to remember, the Longhorn is not an option....it has it's own model number. Small detail to some, but this seperates it from just a check mark on an order form... and a whole new order form.
Custom Camper on top of a Cheyene, while not real common, it is not unheard of. It was seen a bit more before 71 when they were CST instead of Cheyennes. With the longhorn being built for the camper market, it just seemed like the right thing to do when ordering option packages. The custom camper was in all reality only HD tires, springs, shocks and an anti sway bar.

Thanks for the info Longhorn Man. And on your website do you have info on the production numbers for the 72 3/4 tons yet? I think I saw on here somewhere where you posted that there were something like 3300 made but not sure anymore.

blown, come to Sacramento in October/November and you can see the leaves change color. Sacramento has the most trees of any city in the world. Paris France is a close second. Last Tuesday I had a row of leaves 60 feet x 4 feet x 2 feet in front of my home. Gotta love street pickup service during these times.
