Parts truck value?

I am looking into buying either a 1980 1 ton crew cab or 1 ton 4x4 van, I am hoping to take the axles off of my 1970 4x4 and swap them for the 1 ton running gear. I wanted to know what the truck is worth in parts once I pull the axles to see if I am going to be getting into a situation where I can recoup some $$$ or if it would simply be cheaper to hunt for just the axles. My question is this, what are the 'hot parts' on these vehicles, and what are they worth?
I know the th400/np205 is a pretty prized item, whats it worth.....anything else worth a thing, or will she be headed for the scrap yard after that?

Re: Parts truck value?

Some items that come to mind are hydo boost brakes, front sway bar, HD radiator and shroud, tilt column, instrument cluster (if its nice, tach or clock), clutch pedals, power doors or windows, and body parts.

I have junked several trucks in the process of building mine. I have generally always been able to come out even or make a few $$ by parting complete trucks. The only exception is the 87 1/2 I bought. It is a southern truck but the cab is rusty and the frame is bent. The purchase price was about right, but the shipping from down south beat me up.

You can never really guess what people will buy, I've had trouble selling a complete 454 core and TH400 for $500 and had a guy beat my door down to buy a 305 for $200.

The crew cab would prolly be easier to recoup your money with than the van.

Re: Parts truck value?

If you have some nice body parts they can be worth some money in our neck of the woods. Seems like someone is always looking for a decent bumper too.
Glide out spare tire carriers were hot a couple of weeks ago.
