difference between double and single wall tops

How do you tell the difference between double and single wall tops? And what's a good uncracked hatch worth(don't know if single or double)? Any problem areas for hatches? thanks

Re: difference between double and single wall tops

Damage is usually around the hinges and the t handle because that is where you are using the force to open it. I have a tiny crack on my 2 wheel blazer's top on the right hinge. Single wall screws in from the top of the bed rail and vice versa for the double wall top.

As soon as I get a lil better I will post pic's, been sick, I have one of each

There is also a slight variance in weight, at least in my opinion, single = lighter

BTW, that is a really cool link Scrubby, thanks for sharing it with us

Re: difference between double and single wall tops

The single wall tops are a bit more desireable due to the lighter weight, lights, and better design (doubles tend to crack at the center seam and warp on the roof). The hatch is universal between both tops. A perfect hatch with no cracks is rare and worth some $$$. Most are cracked at the hing area, the brace area etc. The hatch is made up of an inner and outer fiberglass section with the inner being much weaker. Water getting inbetween the section can freeze and cause additionl havoc. Huck

Re: difference between double and single wall tops

Anybody have a pic of the center seam on a double wall top? I've never actually seen a double wall.
