Hhheeelllppp!!!!
My 87 1\2 ton is being an A$$. Its at my shop with half of a 6 inch lift in it and the pitman arm is stuck on it. Any ideas on how to get it off??? the impact hammer isnt working, the torch is out of O2, the sledge hammer broke, and the sawzall is my next step... Somebody help me.

Got access to a hydralic press?
Those pitman arms are a HUGE pain in the royal butt. You'd better get a new sledge!

Did you trying using a pitman arm remover tool? You can rent them at Auto Zone or most other places.

I used a pully puller to remove mine

did i mention its 4wd.... i think i forgot that detail. and are there sleeves around the studs that lock the arm in place? i have a new raised arm and it seems to be a cone shape where the nuts go on...possibly so a lock type sleeve can slide in? maybe thats why i cant get it off? this isnt cool. now i have no truck. and also, my rear springs seem to sag alot. after the suspention part of the lift was installed the rear of the truck sank 3 inches lower than the front. GGGRRRRRR

how would you use a puller on the arm... arent they just for the 2wd trucks with the arm on the steering box?

i was on my friends name before.... but anyway, iim stupid because i was talking about the steering arm, not the pitman arm. so yea... how do you get the steering arm off??? sorry about that.

I don't think you can use a pitman arm puller for 4bys. I read somewhere? on how to remove one that was 'stuck' on, but I don't recall how... Try the folks at coloradok5.com.

Sounds more like the steering arm than the pitman arm. The steering arm has 3 studs with cone shaped washers holding it on. I had to use a BFH and beat the h#&& out of it to get the cone washers out...

I just did one last week on a Dana 44 that had been sitting in the Washington rain for years, the axle was out in the back yard so it was fairly easy. 3 wacks w/ 18lb sledge hammer from the bottom side and all 3 cones came lose. If your axle is still bolted up to you truck it will be harder. Soak the cones in penatrating oil before you start.

those damn cone shaped "dowels" are a *****!
i use a torch to heat them up red hot...then a screwdriver to peck them out(they screw out ya know)....then a bfh to whack the arm loose...some times i've had to use a gear puller and an air chissel....there's really no easy way ...the steering arm is the hardest part of putting a lift kit on these trucks
