Shipping ??? on an NOS 72 door shell

Shipping a bare NOS door shell???

Well I had to buy it on eBay and now I have to figure out how to get this safely shipped to me. Any ideas on UPS, Fed Ex, DHL or ? that will ship this to a business address? This door is 600 miles from my house and if anyone was planing a trip this month from near Gary, Indiana down I-80 to near Omaha or close that would be a possibility too.

Ideas???

Thanks
Mark

Re: Shipping ??? on an NOS 72 door shell

I wouldn't ship UPS at all if I were you. I just learned the hard way that UPS does not accept responsibility for shipping damage....even if insured. They have hired a third party to take care of their damage claims and have been instructed to claim the package has been improperly packaged and to deny payment. They even told me that even having a UPS representative package it for you does NOT guarrantee proper packaging! I would use either Fed EX or DHL and have the shipper fab a crate for it. Better yet have someone who is driving in your area bring it up. I only got reinbursed for one of two doors and only after threatening legal action. Good luck!

Re: Shipping ??? on an NOS 72 door shell

I sure wish I could find a ride for it down I-80 from just east of Chicago to Nebraska. Shipping starts and ends on how well someone is willing to package it too.

Is rail on option for ya? I shipped some seats to Grendel and hafta say - other than the drive to get to the train station it was much easier than UPS or Fedex and half the cost.

Re: Shipping ??? on an NOS 72 door shell

When I owned the junkyard I always shipped larger items such as doors by trucking , either Roadway or R&L Trucking . Would be cheaper to a business address and much simpler . Just my thoughts , good luck , a NOS is a rare commodity , Joe

Re: Shipping ??? on an NOS 72 door shell

He is checking today some options but it maybe a road trip in my little Prius. Let's see 19 hours round trip and two tanks of gas $55. That a long day.
Thanks for the ideas. Maybe someone will still be going in the next month.
Mark

Re: Shipping ??? on an NOS 72 door shell

It may be $55 dollars and a day to you but how much is it worth to have it arrive DENT and damage free! ? For a NOS door shell? I'ld gas'er up!

If you have it shipped do it by Greyhound. I had two fenders shipped by
them and both arrived in great condition.
