Door hinge backing plate dropped down
Had a door off on my tow truck and the backing plate that the door hinge bolts to dropped down. The plate thats in the cab post... not the ones in the door. How do you get in there. ? Any ideas on a fix?

Rod, I had that problem with the lower hinge mountingbracket. I fixed the problem by making three cuts and creating a "flap" in the foward side of the hinge piller just in front of where the door bolts. With a screw driver, pryed the metal out to reveal the inside. With a screw driver, fished the nut plate bracket back to where it belongs (inside the cage) You will see the retaining cage when you peek in there.. The problem is the retaining cage has came loose along the bottom (spot weld let go). After repositioning the nut plate bracket within the cage, drill a 1/8" hole thru the piller sheet metal where the cage sits. While holding the cage against the hinge piller sheet metal, weld the cage to the piller thru the hole. Basicly redoing the spot weld. Bend the metal back into place and weld shut. Was alot easier than it sounds. Good luck
