'71-72 grille correct & alternate paint treatments

Hi - I have a '71 that appears to have a thin black line painted on the outer grille surround (its also mostly worn off) but there is definately unpainted aluminum between the black line and the bezel. Most that I have seen have the black trim painted all the way to (but not including) the chrome bezel.

Which is correct and for which year?

Also - anyone have any pics of blacked out inner grilles? or do they just look better in the grey/silver?

Thanks!

all grilles are chrome underneath i believe. most trucks have black paint around the headlights, and in my faq, i wrote about cleaning mine up

i like gray inner grills myself, some like black, some like billet grills... all a preference.

Only 71 outer grills have the thin black "stripe" painted around the outside of the shell.
Check out this Blazer. You can see the black paint on the outside of the outer grill

There is a guy on here that painted his body colour and it looked really good.

I can say my 72 had a silver inner grill.
