good tow strap manufacturer???
I am trying to buy a christmas gift, and I have been told that a 3" tow strap is the gift I need to find, specifically a strap with the fabric loops, not hooks.....I am new to the 4x4 crew, can anyone point me in the right direction? Also, what length am I looking for here....I have seen upto 30' in my search, is this overkill or is it something that will be good for regular use? The person looking for this will likely use it for farm use, and to pull friends/family out of ditches when the weather requires it....it will not be used for off road recovery.
Thanks

Re: good tow strap manufacturer???
Pro Comp has some nice straps. That is what I will probably get for my wheelin' rig. We use a 2" tow rope for farm and ranch use.It holds up good and has some stretch to it which really helps.

This sight has some nice straps. http://stores.ebay.com/Best-Bargainz The blue used ones. They are a good size also. I have 2 of them. They have them all the time so don't pay to much.

http://www.recoverygear.com/default.htm
and http://www.masterpull.com/index.cfm I guess you'll need to decide if you want a "tow" strap or "snatch" strap, one stretches the other doesn't.

Re: good tow strap manufacturer???
I'd also recommend getting 2 different lengths, a 30' and maybe something around 10'. I did have a 100' piece of mouring line about 3" in diameter, damn thing was heavy, and a PITA to get knots out of! The one time I went to use it, it was still 20' too short.

Re: good tow strap manufacturer???
ok, apparently the person in question has been referring to the tow strap as a "snatch'em strap"....I have come across this brand in my searches, is it any good?
Is this a general term for a tow strap, or is he likely refering to this particular brand name? If so, would there be any local stores or online stores where I should look to find this particular strap? Thanks

Re: good tow strap manufacturer???
You can get them about any parts stores and even some farm implement stores. Most ppl call them tow straps but that si what they are talking about. Nylon stretches giving you a rubber band effect. You can jerk em hard and it doesnt break things like chains do. For serious stucks I woul get at least a 3"x30' strap. For just towing a 2" would probably work and it doesnt have to be no more than 20'.

Re: good tow strap manufacturer???
You should just check out a construction company around you and see where they get there slings from. You seem to be asking for an eye to eye nylon sling or twisted eye might be better for your purpose. Most crane companies and rigging companies can supply the good stuff, but your better off getting from the manufacturer..most slings are required to have the weight ratings and manufacturer on the strap its self if used commercially / industrially ....so you can see who made it if you go see one, and know what its capacities are in different lift or pulling configurations.
Here's a local manufacturer near me. http://www.saturnind.com/slings.php Custom stuff is available also. But you probably have something closer and might not know where to start looking. Anyway there's a manaufacturer who does this kind of thing....not my company...just info. Most of the industrial stuff is pricey due to liability issues...you might be better off finding a surplus or implement store as Mudder67 replied.

Re: good tow strap manufacturer???
Keeper brand, any good? I am stuck between these and the recovery gear usa.....the keeper is rated to 33,000lbs for the 3' x 30', so I like that, but can't seem to find anyone who can tell me anything about them. I found them on an army surplus page....just wanted to make sure it was legit.
Thanks

Re: good tow strap manufacturer???
I have used them and have had no problems with them at all. They are probably as good as any. One thing to remember when using one of these is to not let it wrap or be against a sharp object when towing as it will cut the strap.

Re: good tow strap manufacturer???
AAA Sling (downstate Michigan) has always been a good company to deal with. Our Four Wheeling club here at school. www.mtu4x4.org has bought straps from them for years. They're Powerflex straps are stretchy and hold up to all kinds of abuse. I use their 4"x30' and 6"x30' for wheeling that I do. We usually do a club order and they've always been a lot cheaper and tons better quality than a parts store or hardware store straps. Here is a picture of my 6 inch coiled up. IIRC, it has a 60,000 lb rating. http://www.mtu4x4.org/gallery2/v/mem..._1080.JPG.html Sorry for the quality, not a real good picture.
