Original colors Door Panels

This is my first post:
I just purchased a 72 Cheyenne LB in pretty good shape minus the door panels. American Classic Truck's website offers door panels in several colors.

The inside of the cab is the original a dark, flat yellow. How do I determine what color door panels to buy? I want to stay as true to the original as possible.

Thanks!

Re: Original colors Door Panels

What color is the dashpad, seat, carpet, steering wheel? That will help us figure it out. I'm assuming the yellow you're talking about is the paint?

Re: Original colors Door Panels

If the truck is original, look in the glovebox for the interior color and code.

The dashpad is black, the seat is black (not sure if the cover is original, its not cracked or really worn), the carpet is reddish black, and the steering wheel is some cheesy cherrywood (its a sportscar wheel). The interior of the cab is mustard, same as the exterior, and appears to be original.

Re: Original colors Door Panels

What color are the sunvisors ? Thats another clue. If the dash pad and visors are black its a good bet that the door panels were black also.

Re: Original colors Door Panels

My Ocre / white 72 cheyenne has Parchment door panels, visors, headliner and parchment/houndstooth seat. The parchment is kinda off white. My dashpad is black and carpet is black. Ocre is kinda a mustard yellow color. Hope this helps.

Re: Original colors Door Panels

If everything is black including the seat(assuming it's original), The door panels would be black.

You have the same color scheme as me (Ochre/white), but inside I have brown visors, black dashpad, no headliner, black vinyl seat that I'm not sure is original, brown seatbelt, blackish/red carpet. Ugh, its a mishmash, but I'm sure the visors and dashpad and seatbelts are original. Did the Cheyenne feature options on interior color to go with the choices in exterior?

The codes in the glovebox give no interior color code.

Re: Original colors Door Panels

I think ochre must have been one of the most flexible of all exterior colors as far as the matching interior was concerned. I have seen alot of black, parchment and mine which is brown.

That looks awesome. Thanks for the picture, I'll be able to sleep a little easier. Your door panels look like vinyl over metal which I thought was discountinued after 1971 instead of the less favorable molded plastic. Am I wrong to think that your style door panel didn't go past 1971? I prefer yours over the molded plastic.

Nice interior Solver!. I always wondered what holds the woodgrain aluminum inserts to the door panels????. Are they glued on?

The stainless accent strip has tabs that go thru the door panels and bend over. I just finished replacing mine last week. That interior is just like mine except I do not have woodgrain on my glovebox.

Re: Original colors Door Panels

I believe that there is a little more to switching from molded to flat or flat panels to molded. Don't the shafts on the window cranks and door latches need to be longer if you have molded panels?

Wouldn't the plastic door panel need to have holes in it to accept these tabs?. I have only seen solid plastic door panels. Just curious.

Re: Original colors Door Panels

The tabs are more like pins and yes the panels actually have slots stamped in them as holes would need to be precise and slots allow for some adjustment.
