Hey guys check out my custom electric radiator fans for my 72. Well, I did cheat a little bit. I picked up the custom metal shroud from Classic Heartbeat. They make the shroud in raw metal, powercoated, aluminum or stainless steel. I decided to cut down the cost so I ordered the raw metal one and primed and painted it. Got (2) new electric fans from e-bay and wired in relays. Looks real clean, I hope it works well.....especially when the Texas heat come back around. You can buy the complete set up for about $350 but I easily but this for less than $200 by buying the components and doing it myself.

No, they are 12", they do make a shroud that holds (1) 16" but I thought (2) 12" would pull more air. They are cheap on e-bay got them for less than $30 including shipping, NEW. Im sure they are made in china, but for that price I bought a spare.

Looks good! I've been thinking about upgrading to electric fans as well.

Electric fans are a great upgrade! Expect a couple MPG increase along with freeing up a little power.

Looks great!! I am glad that you liked the shroud... A little fan install tip though.... I supply 1/4" electrical grommets in my complete fan assemblies to use in the fan mounting holes. They will absorb some of the vibrations of the truck and give your fans a little longer life. WES www.ClassicHeartbeat.com

It does make a BIG difference!

I want to say it was 2-3 mpg. When I got the truck it was getting about 9.5 mpg. I added an aluminum intake, HEI, roller tip rockers and underdrive pulleys. I went back later and added the electric fans. I now pull 14.75mpg consistently. That's in the left lane of the interstate with the A/C on high! I could probably pull better numbers if I eased around in it. I run an electric fan on both of my trucks and our Jeep.

I really didn't do it for the mileage, I live in Texas and when you are sitting in traffic on a 100* day, it sure is nice to hear that second fan kick on when you are just sitting in stop and go traffic for an hour. I am running a 510 lift cam at 248 duration so I pop it in neutral most of the time when I am in traffic. It doesn't like to idle under 1100rpm.

I have a 2400 stall converter but its almost too small. I had a 3000 stall 8 inch converter but damn that really sucked gas in stop and go traffic, damn near wrecked it a time or two when the converter hit....
