windsheild washer wont squirt

alright yall,i need some help,i fially got the girl going again after a bad motor, anyway,i was putting in my washer bottle, and started to begin to make sure it worked,so that io could aim my nozzles where i wanted them, but nothing is coming out.this has sat for at least 3 years,as far as i know, there is 3 hoses coming off of the pump,i am assuming that the long one on the top is the water in and the 2 other are water out, anybody have any ideas

Re: windsheild washer wont squirt

That is correct, and you can still buy them from GM, the washer pump that is. Randy

Re: windsheild washer wont squirt

I think so, it looks like there is a screw point at the inlet side(small metal tab above the inlet), and then another screw piont and metal mounting tab at the opposite end of the pump.

I have the same problem--but Advance AP offers a rebuild kit. Would that 'fix' the washer pump? Just asking vs. $50 for a new one.

Anita, welcome tot he board.
An easier and cheaper way is a unerversal replacement inline pump. You can get one at wall world or any parts store, and normally for right around 10 bucks. These give a more positive stream, and much more power too.
Personally, I have only seen one of the original style pump actually work.

Re: windsheild washer wont squirt

Unless you're into staying original, I would second Longhorn Man. The new style electric inline pumps just work a lot better. Plus, you get to control how much gets applied, unlike the set wash cycle of the original set up.

Re: windsheild washer wont squirt

so do you basically just wire that up as your washer and disconnect your washer hoses from the factory washer and plumb them through that, thats pretty cool...mike

Re: windsheild washer wont squirt

I just replaced mine, seemed easier than trying to rebuild a 30 year old unit. New one swirts just fine!

Oh, I bought it from GMSPauls for about $25 I think...

Re: windsheild washer wont squirt

Maybe its not working because you have a cracked/broken hose?

Re: windsheild washer wont squirt

Just buy the pump rebuilt kit. All that is wrong when they don't pump is the rubber valves are shot. $5.88 and some of your time:

http://www.partsamerica.com/ProductD...pe=335&ptset=A

NAPA use to stock these. Maybe they still do?
