Look What I Bought..Opinions wanted on head upgrade
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=8024684868
I couldn't resist. I'm beginning to compile the parts I need for my engine rebuild and stumbled into this. I wasn't planning to go quite so high performance but talked myself into buying it anyway. Maybe I'll hotrod a little more than I had originally planned. My questions are: Will it be ok to use rebuilt stock heads? If a head upgrade is necessary, what would you recommend? Thanks, JKR

WOW, that is beautiful! Nice find.
The 383 cranks are inexpensive nowadays. How about a 9 to 1 383 with SR Torquer heads and a nice smooth hydraulic roller cam ground for grunt. I really have no idea what you like or don't like or where you're headed with your engine rebuild. But big smooth motors with lotsa torque is cool in an old truck. Just my .02.....

Cool old school unit. You can run the old style script valve covers since you have the oil filler tube there. It appears to be an older dual plane design so it will be best for a torque motor which will work best in these heavy trucks anyway.

Re: Look What I Bought..Opinions wanted on head upgrade
Yea. Since this purchase the engine plans have now changed. I was planning to build something a little lopey and strong but not too high pro and I'm still not going to go so far that it's not street driveable.
I'm maybe starting to get over my head with this but I've been there before. Just got to dig my way out. The trucks going to be a hotrod that's driven occasionally but not everyday. Thanks for the input.

Are you planning to run HEI?. If so, I'm not sure the C3b intakes work with stock GM HEI distributors. My buddy had one 10 years ago.

HEI it is but stock or not is a good question. Are you saying no HEI or just not the stock HEI? If not stock then probably I would chose MSD, that's what I'm considering anyway. JKR

Re: Look What I Bought..Opinions wanted on head upgrade
If I remember a stock GM distributor will not work but don't hold me to that. I just seem to remember something about HEI's and those intakes.
