Power steering hose '71 Chevy p/u

Has anyone had problems getting the correct power steering pressure hose for a two wheel drive with a 350. I have ordered from two different suppliers, one being NAPA, and the tube that threads into the gearbox stands too high and will not rest on the frame where the hold down clip attaches. If you thread it in all the way the tube is 3/4 " from touching the frame. Is the hose assy. still available from GM? If so, anyone have a part # or know of a supplier that sells the correct hose? I compared the old hose with the new one and there is definitely a difference.

If it fits your pump also just bend the line down the 3/4".

Tried that on an old line with the same problem, but the tube started kinking.

Try one from a 73-78. That's what I have on my 71 BB 1/2

Re: Power steering hose '71 Chevy p/u

the pressure hose on my truck(same truck as yours) is like that too. been on there for almost 2 years and seems to be alright. dont really like it but i didnt have much chance to shop around for them cause my old hose got sawed in half when one of the alternator bolts broke. that was a huge mess oil completly covering the entire engine compartment and down the outside of the fenders . kind of freaks you out when you are on the freeway and you lose your steering and there is a huge smoke trail blowing out the side of your truck from all the oil spraying onto the headers. i'm lucky it didnt catch fire

I messed around with this same problem for a long time with my '72. At some point the power steering had been removed, so I had to find brackets, the *right* pump body (the standard square ones wouldn't fit due to belt clearance) and then finally the hoses. I also bought hose after hose and finally ended up making my own with Aeroquip - it may not be factory (or cheap , but it fits *perfectly* and routes exactly the way I want it. If you go this route, be sure to get the right hoses and ends for the application.

I sent an "example hose" of what i wanted to www.classictube.com and they sent me a "correct" factory looking hose for about $50.00 bucks. Took about 3 weeks but was worth the wait.

Easy fix--put a solid strap under original clamp and use a spacer to frame.

Re: Power steering hose '71 Chevy p/u

I couldnt find anything to lay flat on the frame like the original so I used some compression fittings and cut the steel tubes and made my own hose using my old tube ends. . It doesn't look stock, but I like it better then a hose sticking up a couple of inches. John
