72 AM/ FM Fitment Question...

I am curious about what factory style radios fit in the factory, uncut, dash of our '72 trucks. $400-$600 for a OEM radio is too steep for my wallet. However I see loads of am/fm radios for novas, chevelles, el caminos chevy vans, ect. on ebay for much less money. USA radios are a nice replacement, however I have zero interest in a tape deck in my dash, it seems too expensive, cluttered and not up to date.

I would just like something clean, am/fm that can work with an XM or sirus controler. Can you even use a factory radio with a digital set up and the addition of an amplifier.

I know many people on this board have the same issue of wanting something clean and simple in their dash w/o cutting it up.

A happy, healthy and prosperous New Year too all of you....

Re: 72 AM/ FM Fitment Question...

You should PM Lamar, he has quite a few two knob radios that will fit our trucks. They are from the mid 80's am/fm cassette, and maybe digital too!! I got a JVC from him about a year ago now and it's great. Here is a pic of it and it was pretty inexpensive, works great digital reception, higher wattage, can run better speakers for nice driver quality sound.

Thanks for the responses. I didn't want to cut the dash, but I guess nothings sacred anymore. Thanks again for the ideas...
