Intake Manifold Question/Recomendations?
Ok I want to get an Edelbrock intake but im a little confused. First my engine specs. Stock 350 V8, points (soon to HEI). When I get my manifold I will also get an Edelbrock #1406 Carb. Now what is the difference between all these intakes and what should I get for my truck. I want something that when I do more engine work like cam and heads will still work well. I was leaning towards the Performer RPM but thats just from what I have read. Thanks

Which one meathead95, Performer Air-Gap or the Performer RPM Air-Gap?

performer rpm air gap, or the dart kool can ...its basically the same intake as the edelbrock( but it says DART) and its a little cheaper.. thr rpm is good from 1500 to 6500 and the performer is from idle to 5500....the stock stall converter is around 1500 rpm, so it falls into the rpm's range...unless you need the smog control garbage, the performer is not a great pick

I have run both performer and RPM on stock and cammed out small blocks, if you are stock now, you'll want the performer.
If you go with the RPM on a stock engine, you'll feel like you wasted $$. They are both kick ass intakes, but if they arre not matched to the rest of the engine, they are just lumps of aluminum on your engine. Either get the performer, or wait till you stab a healthey cam in there and get the RPM. |

I agree with Longhorn, except I might consider using the Performer even if you upgrade the cam. It's doubtful you are building an engine to use above 5500 rpm, so why not go with the one that gives you more off-the-line torque? I've never heard complaints about the Performer, and the newer Performer Air Gap should be even better!

Well eventually I will add a Performer RPM cam and Performer RPM heads. I kinda wanted to do the whole RPM deal from Edelbrock. How bad will the Performer RPM on my engine be?

If you have decent heads now, (like vortecs or something) it may have soggy bottom end...poor take off, but if you have crappy heads, it may not run right untill you hit 3,000 RPM, which is pretty much all your driving.

I have a performer rpm air gap, vortech heads, and a 1406 carb on my 327 with a stock cam! in it right now, soon to put in a xe256. real power band is a bit limited, about 3000 to 4500 but when it hits that holy Sh$@! definatly better than stock, I don't think you'll experience a huge problem. a little less response below 2000rpm. I have a 5 speed though, don't know what a slushy would be like, but mine is also a 327, yours should be better matched being a 350. What rpm range do you expect to use your engine the most though? maybe try one of those new eps intakes.

Really Up to you and how you are going to actually drive the truck !! On my 68, I have the Performer and it works great!! I upgraded to Performer from a Torker (original) and all I gained was my low end, did not lose upper end. If you are not planning of going over 5500 RPMs then go w/ Performer Air Gap and get a set of Vortec Cast Iron Heads!! These heads will flow just as well as the RPM heads but will only cut you back around $ 500 new or $ 200 - 300 used! Personally, I would go w/ Performer or Air Gap and just get a good set of Vortec! If you don't care about low end and want high performance, then do either a set of RPM heads, Etec 200 Heads or even Fast Burn Vortec Heads w/ Performer RPM Air Gap and either a 750 Edelbrock, Carter 750 or Quadrajet 4MV!! It just depends on how much money you want to spend and how are you planning to drive your truck !!
My engine, I have 66 Corvette Fuelie (462) 2.02 Valves, Performer Intake, Carter AFB 625, L79 Vette Cam( Soon to upgrade to Roller cam) w/ a 1991 GM 350 2 bolt main Block (able to run OEM Roller Lifter Setup)..
