can somebody tell me what the torque specs are for the front wheel bearing on our trucks is ? thanks in advance, john

I never torque them just rotate wheel while tightening until all slack is removed then tighten till a cotter pin can be installed. My '72 chassis service manual lists the wheel bearing preload as zero, so just take up all the slack.

In the front suspension torque specs, the Chassis Service Man. lists 15lbs. ft. C10 and 40lbs. ft. C20,30 and then back nut off to align cotter pin.

I USUALLY PUT THE TIRE ON, SPIN IT WHILE TIGHTENING THE SPINDLE NUT. I TIGHTEN THE NUT UNTIL THE TIRE STOPS ROTATING, & THEN BACK THE NUT OFF 1/3 - 1/2 TURN. DOING THIS MAKES SURE THE BEARINGS & RACES ARE SEATED. JOHN

Sounds like my proces... a little more than snug by hand, then back off to the first hole.

I tighten them similar to John's method. Tapered roller bearings need to run with a preload on them to keep the rollers in contact with the races. A loose tapered roller bearing can have skidding and sliding of the rollers leading to premature failure. Also any looseness in the bearings can cause wheel shake so some preload is desireable.
