Son's accident photos & repair plan

I finally got to tear into my pickup today to see the extent of the damage from my son's run-in with a local concrete barrier. It was a bit worse than I thought, primarily due to existing rust damage complicating the repair.
  • The bumper and all supports are junk - no surprise
  • The frame horn on the right side is mangled.
  • RH fender and wheelwell are junk - no surprise

The hard part is that the radiator core support also looks like junk. I thought I might be able to pound it out but it's completely rusted away where the fenderwell mounts onto it on both sides.

So, the plan at this point is:
  • RH fender and wheelwell from the parts truck
  • New Goodmark core support

The last piece that I'm struggling with is the fender horn...anyone have a mashed frame that they could torch this piece off for me? I figure a Smart Guy could cut and weld this on, since it's not structural.

Very interested in suggestions/feedback from the board!

Re: Son's accident photos & repair plan

Bill, I've got a front frame horn in the recycle pile. The frame steel is very soft so no problem cutting or welding. I will trade you for the bottom of the front fender I need for a patch panel. Post a close up of the bottom bucket on that fender so I will see if it will work...I can pound out just about anything and weld and metal tears.

Did you make him take it apart? Cool having a parts truck, isn't it?

Dude, it's a deal. I've got an extra set of fenders that are nice; if you'd rather have one that doesn't need to be patched it's yours.

Sounds like we need a Pac NW Beer Night in order to make the exchange

Re: Son's accident photos & repair plan

My daughter ran my '67 into a tree in the pasture learning to drive. No power steering and this was before I took it apart for the resto so I could hardly get upset about it. Full fender (passenger side) will work for me. Just let me know when you want to do the exchange and I will have the frame ready to go...I will go and check to make sure that it is still there.
