Re: where to get window motors

I can't suggest a good place to get them but before you jump off and buy one make sure it's really the motor. GM has used some really crappy switches on their power windows. If it's one of the chrome ones, the contacts may be chewed up causing the motor to get low voltage. If the voltage goes down, the current draw goes up and overheats the motor. You might try bypassing the switch with a heavy gauge jumper to see if that has any effect. Also, if you have a meter it would help if you could see what the voltage drop at the motor is when it's in operation.
I didn't see in your posts what year it was so I thought I'd throw that at you. If it's one of the late models with plastic switch buttons I don't know if this will help. Maybe they finally corrected the problem but I have no experience with them.
Good Luck,
Fiream
Just noticed you had the year in this post. Sorry I missed that. I went and read your other post and then came back to this one and replied without re-reading this one. Did the 89's still use the chrome switches?

Re: where to get window motors

Fiream, yes it's an '89 and yes, it has the little chrome switches...

bisquik65, let me start and make absolutely sure it's the motor first. I'll try bypassing the switch and seeing what the voltage drop is. If I still need a motor, I'll let you know. Thanks for the offer!

Take your door panel off,Plug the switch back in,And try it,If it dont work, try smacking the motor itself with a small hammer...If it starts working, the brushes are bad in the motor...And check one more common thing...Inside the rubber boot in front of the door...Gm's and bad to break i wire from open/close all the time...and that may be it too....Make sure you have power to the switch...Let me know,Glad to help,Erick

Re: where to get window motors

Guys,

The motor actually works, but is really slow and eventually overheats. If I help pull it up or push it down w/ my hand, I can get it to go up or down without overheating, but that's it.

I hopefully will get to try bypassing the switch tomorrow...
