((HELP)) 2WD Blazer buy or not buy

I live in the California bay area and I've been looking for a 2wd Blazer for a while. Well I found one but the guy wants $5K for it, but he'll take $4500. Its a 1972 PS, AC truck and an original 2WD Blazer with an original delux top. I dont know if I should buy it or not Its a pretty straight truck that needs to be gone through but doesnt run. The passengers side door has rust and needs to be replaced. It also needs a new hood, tail gate, grille, paint and interior (needs restoration). The rockers were replaced years ago but are starting to bubble again. I dont have any pictures of the truck but will try to get them to post. Please let me know what I should do. Is $4500 too much for this truck?

I say if you want one buy it, they aren't making any more of them you know.
$4500 may be a little high, but ive seen them go for more in poor to fair condition.

The seller obviously knows the rarity of the Blazer. Do you want a clean driver or do you want a 100 point show truck? You can easily spend $20K+ on a restoration of a $5000 truck, or buy a finished truck for $16,000.

Thats what I think Im leaning toward. Im going to dump AT LEAST $20K into it pluse the purchase of the truck. I can buy one done for $16k and save the stress for daily life. But I still want the pleasure of restoring or doing one of these trucks. Now I got the idea in my head to convert a 4x4 into a 2x4, but Im thinking about putting it on an 86 corvette frame. I can get the corvette for $1K and a clean truck for $2k, then i have a one of a kind 2WD Blazer. Anyone know of this being done????

Some times I really hate living in California; everything here is so damn expensive.

$1k vettes and $2K clean 1st generation blazers in same post as "so damm expensive". That doesn't add up to me!!

IMHO its better to try an dpin down what you really wnat and tehn go from there. An original 2 wheel drive blazer, willing to do work to covert 4x4 or custom one with vette combo. Those three are real different animals with their own issues to overcome.

Keep us posted on your plans. I like the sounds of original blazer, I also think price is high but you have to go look and talk to owner to get to bottom line.

Re: ((HELP)) 2WD Blazer buy or not buy

If you're going to make a custom street rod on a corvette frame, don't waste your money buying an original 2wd. Find a solid 4wd and ditch the frame. You may even get lucky and find a rig with front end damage or frame damage.

Won't you lose the back seat and bed area in a blazer if you put it on a corvette frame? From what I've seen, they go up pretty high to clear the rear suspension.

Re: ((HELP)) 2WD Blazer buy or not buy

I don't think that the price is all that expensive. BUT I haven't seen pictures either. They can only go up in value. If the Vette suspension is what you really want,... keep on looking for a 4x4. I guess I am a believer in the "supply and demand thing". I just saw bidding on ebay for a "NOS" ZL1/COPO camaro dipstick that was bid up to $480.00. There are more people with money than there are cars. If you decide not to get it,... I bet there are plenty of people on the board that would like to see pics. Keep us posted!

Re: ((HELP)) 2WD Blazer buy or not buy

Remember if you spend $16,000 for a finsihed one there is always something that you want to buy for it. I spent a little less then 16k on mine and there are still some things I want to do to it.

As for the Blazer for $4500... post some pics if you can. From your description the price (imo) seems a little high. I looked for about 6 months before I purchased mine and I think that was prettty short compared to others onthe board.

Re: ((HELP)) 2WD Blazer buy or not buy

if your going the custom route i would say find a nice 4wd and convert it. here are three in the sf bay area in your price range. i bet you can make some your money back selling the 4wd stuff on this forum. i got mine off craigslist. i scored a choice 72 CST 4wd for 2500. the po was kind of a stoner, didnt know much about blazers. he only had the truck for a month says he bought it just to go to "burning man" i didnt think it was my job to let him know he could have got twice as much as i gave him. he didnt know that the top came off and "wondered why the guy he got it from would put aluminum heads on it since cast iron is much stronger than that aluminum stuff" go figure

All these trucks are cheaper in California than on the East Coast.I think that`s high for California. It doesn`t even run?If you want to build a high-dollar total custom you should be looking for the best body.Save the time, money, and effort on body resto for all your other plans.Kinda like what the TV-Rodders do.

I already talked to him about the price and 4500 is the bottom line.

Re: ((HELP)) 2WD Blazer buy or not buy

Pic's would really help, I gave $1200 for mine and it runs and drives,
HOWEVER, for it to get to where I want it, over $20K in next 5 yrs,
they are few and far between, and they typically sell very fast

Re: ((HELP)) 2WD Blazer buy or not buy

i say it all depends if you buy a $16,000 blazer it may not be a complete restoration. if you are going to dump $20,000 on a 2wd blazer you best belive it is going to have everything new on it thats my 0.2
