Shaving antenna, where to put it?
I have my cowl off the truck right now, along with every other body panel, and before I repaint it, I think I want to shave the antenna. I always thought it looked kind of goofy up there, and my stock antenna is thrashed, so moving it is the obvious answer. How hard is it to fill in the hole, and where does everyone usually relocate an antenna to? I will be buying a new one, just not sure which new one. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Re: Shaving antenna, where to put it?
Just a little sheet metal welding... no big deal. You may have to contour the plug you make a little for a smooth fit. There are stockers with no hole but may be hard to find.
The Harley guys have powered antennas for the full-dress bikes. Its a little black box you can hide anywhere. You could also just put the stock mast behind the dash. Should be OK around town, not so good on road trips...

Where to move it? Where the gas cap used to be

Re: Shaving antenna, where to put it?
The gas cap is actually still there shifty, but I thought about frenching it into the passenger side. I'd move my tank, but I got rear ended by an import sedan and it ended up right where the blazer tank would have been. I really like the look of that autoloc one though, completely hidden, and if it gets good reception, that's all that matters to me. It says no AM, but I can't think of a time I've ever listened to AM (except in the truck, because it was better than the sound of wind).

Re: Shaving antenna, where to put it?
Here's the Autoloc antenna on Ebay for about the best price. I put one in my truck and it gets good reception although I haven't been out of town with it yet.

Re: Shaving antenna, where to put it?
I have mounted them under the cowl, and never had a problem at all.

Put it under the carpet--works fine.

Re: Shaving antenna, where to put it?
I have one similar to the auto lock that i bought at advanced auto parts. It is not totally hidden. I mounted in between the mirror and the headliner. It does a pretty good job.

Mine is under the passengers feet. It works oky to get local stations. Never mind it was $4.99 at walmart.

Re: Shaving antenna, where to put it?
Nope it about 14" long plastic one. It's under the carpet and padding. Nobody ever notice it there.
