Well, after going though the HUGE thread on new headlights and wires http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=173230
I decided to upgrade my lights. They were dim, flickered a bit, and the
left one went out every so often. As always I went a bit pic happy.

Here is what I ordered from Summit. A new wire harness (AMC-509102) and
two new headlights (HLA-70477) for about $110

As you can see the harness came pre assembled with all the connectors
hooked up for me. The end with the two positive power leads goes on the
battery side.

Step one, disconnect negative bat cable (couldnt resist taking a pic)

The battery side old headlight connector plugs into the harness, then there
is a new connector for the headlight. This gives the signal to the relays to
turn on the lights without drawing a ton of power. On my truck it was really
tight due to the charcole filter in the way so I couldnt get a pic. Hell, I could
barely get my hand in there.

The excess wire got tucked in under the battery and the wires that go
to the other side went under the battery too.

I started at the battery end first and mounted the relays next to the
little power junction. I also attached the two positive leads to the junction
too instead of directly to the battery. If I hooked it to the battery the
connectors would have made the connection all crappy.

I routed the wire under the radiator and attached it to the top of the
frame support so nothing could get to it if I run over something. It was
a pretty tight fit - just barely long enough. I thought about running it
over the radiator instead, but I thought it would look better tucked away.

Thats it really. You also need to ground each headlight too, and install the
new bulbs just like normal. Now my head lights are brighter and steady. No
more flickering! And its much nicer driving on the freeway at night.

Looks nice and straightforward. I haven't added relays yet but did upgrade my headlights when I was redoing my truck. Just the new headlights is a major improvement.

Which headlights did you go with?

Yep! came with both relays and the little metal bracket thingie.

I upgraded mine this weekend....but...I didn't like the yellow sleeve on the harness so I carefully cut it off and then was able to tuck the harness into the stock harness cover that is mounted to the radiator core support. Looks nice.

Hey Farside847...I do like that bracket though....very slick.

I bought the same wiring harness from LMC. It works great and eliminates all the soldering and shrink wrapping of wires for a build-it yourself system, plus it's plug-n-play with headlight harness.

I should have mentioned that I bought mine from LMC too.....no cool bracket for the relays but the same bright yellow sleeve.
